2007 Cars To Be Driven In

Obtaining a driver’s license was, at one point in our lives, the most important goal we had. After all, sitting in the driver’s seat gave us the power and freedom to go where we wanted, when we wanted and with whomever we wanted. Ironically, many of the most powerful people find another form of automotive freedom by delegating their driving to the hands of a trusted chauffeur. Along with the chauffeur, royalty, government officials and celebrities are granted special treatment in a catered ride that has a backseat so luxurious that it makes our homes pale in comparison.

Please feel free to lounge and sip some Dom as I guide you through six cars that are best to be driven in.

1- 2007 Bentley Arnage T

Bentley has spent most of its existence in the shadows of its rival, Rolls-Royce. In the late ‘90s, Bentley and Rolls-Royce officially divorced in a deal that involved billions of dollars and a claim to prestigious property. Today, standing as a premium brand with a style all its own, Bentley has emerged with an armada of new models to serve to customers who desire British performance mixed with flawless luxury and quality. The Bentley Arnage, base price $234,990, accepts any challenge to match its decadence.

Under the Arnage T package, the performance-oriented version of this Bentley is propelled by a 500-horsepower twin-turbo V8 to overcome the exceptional 5,699 pound curb weight. Keep in mind that with a zero to 60 mph time of 5.2 seconds, your chauffeur will be grinning from ear to ear.

Your Arnage can be adorned with a choice of eight standard exterior colors to compliment a palette of 27 interior hues. If money isn’t object, Bentley's longtime coachbuilder Mulliner will accept any custom instructions from a distinguished buyer.

View from the back: With plenty of genuine wood veneer set beside diamond-quilted leather seats, the passenger is knowingly surrounded in class. The enormous backseat boasts 41.3 inches of legroom and 56.8 inches of shoulder space. The backseat may also substitute for a theater with its Dolby 5.1 surround sound and twin LCD displays mounted in the front seat headrests. For a simpler form of entertainment, a set of picnic tables along with a rear cocktail compartment can serve as a welcoming invitation to celebrate the concluding day.

2- 2007 Audi A8

Audi has long been ahead of the curve when providing luxury cars. The automaker earned outright ownership of the high-end sports car class with the success of the R8 and the Quattro all-wheel drive. The German brand stands as a premium manufacturer that is identified by performance and exceptional attention to detail and quality. The Audi A8 L sets out to bring the Audi image to the highest luxury class possible.

A base model Audi A8 L sedan, starting at $72,900, enjoys a direct-injection eight-cylinder power plant capable of producing 350 horsepower while still maintaining 20 miles per gallon. If you feel a little more charitable at the gas pumps, the high-end $119,350 model is equipped with a 450 horsepower W12 engine that goes from zero to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds.

Vehicles with both engines include the Quattro AWD system coupled with the Electronic Stabilization Program. Measuring at 204.4 inches long, the Audi A8 would be forgiven for being a heavy vehicle; however, the top of the line Audi A8 L W12 only weighs in at 4,299 pounds with the extensive use of aluminum throughout the car.

View from the back: Valcona Leather seats are protected by a power rear sunshade as well as manual side shades. If you feel unsatisfied with the standard color of the interior, the Audi A8 L offers an exclusive Cognac interior for an additional $11,500. Once the interior is to your liking, you may opt for the Bang and Olufsen 14-speaker advanced stereo system with six-disc CD changer. While listening to your pitch-perfect music, pull an item out of your Audi A8 L's mini refrigerator integrated within the rear seat. The W12 model also offers a powered lumber adjustment in the rear seat, providing the ultimate comfort experience.

3- 2007 Cadillac Escalade

The Cadillac Escalade emerged in 1999 as the company’s daring step into the new high-class SUV segment of the market. The Cadillac DTS has long been acknowledged as the flagship for GM's premium division, but the Escalade has become somewhat of a de facto leader due to the number of customers who have tired of the conventional large sedans.

Redesigned and refined for 2007, the 403-horsepower, eight-seat Escalade went on sale early in 2006 at a starting price of $55,400 for the two-wheel drive or $57,955 for the four-wheel drive. Apart from factory available 22-inch aluminum alloy wheels, 5.1 surround-sound speaker system and a driver-information package that includes DVD-based navigation, the Escalade also caters to the aftermarket with an assortment of products that allow you to customize your ride.

View from the back: With a ground clearance of nine inches, passengers in the back can relish their view of the world as the Escalade passes it by. Two spacious rows of rear seats will also let you entertain and enjoy the company of a few of your closest friends. If you’re not in the mood for conversation, the optional entertainment system package offers an eight-inch, foldout widescreen monitor and wireless headphones.

4- 2007 Mercedes-Benz CLS550

Mercedes-Benz has mixed the comfort of a luxury sedan with the performance and styling of a sports car to create the CLS550. Although Mercedes advertises the car as the world's “first” four-door coupe, the mid-sized car is geared more for performance than for the posh luxury sought out for a chauffeured ride. Undoubtedly, the CLS550's sports-car radiance will feed the racing soul within you.

The 2007 model has received a boost from the previous 5.0-liter to a 5.5-liter engine. The V8 engine now cranks out 382 horsepower, which is fed through an ultra-smooth, seven-speed automatic gearbox. The CLS550 hits the ground running and reaches 60 mph in 5.4 seconds.

A 507 horsepower AMG version is also available if you want to send your blood racing. For a controlled and comfortable ride, the CLS550 employs a semi-active air-suspension system to actively compensate for ride and speed, which means that you can also instruct the driver to tune your ride height or firmness.

View from the back: The backseat area is divided by a center console that extends from the front dash. As a result, there are only two premium leather seats for you and a choice guest, but each passenger has his own climate controls. Within your reach is a foldable armrest as well as a storage compartment in the console.
